#kidapproved Chocolate Smoothie

A common complaint I hear in practice is parents struggling to get greens into their kids (and themselves!). Look no further than this #kidapproved Chocolate Smoothie, that is chock full of healthy fats, fibre, greens and chocolate!! I promise they won’t even know the greens are in there. I adapted this recipe from Angela Lidon’s Hidden Greens Chocolate Protein Smoothie. If you enjoy this one, be sure to check out the Green Nut Butter smoothie (coming soon).

Recipe

  • 2 bananas (frozen preferred) or 3-4 dates

  • 2 handfuls of greens (spinach, kale)

  • 4 tbsp hemp hearts

  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1/4 large avocado (optional)

  • 1 scoop protein powder (our fave is PurePaleo Vanilla by Designs for Health)

  • 1 cup milk alternative

  • 1 cup water (or more for desired consistency)

Method

Add everything to a blender and blend until VERY smooth. Nobody likes a chunky smoothie.

Notes

  • We use Designs For Health’s PurePaleo Vanilla protein powder (available in my online dispensary), and use a regular sized Vita-Mix blender jug.

  • You can used any protein powder you like, but I would adjust the sweetness to taste using more or dates and/or bananas.

  • The bananas should be frozen but it’s not necessary (that said, this is a great way to not waste another brown banana, just toss it in a container in the freezer, they make the best smoothies).

  • Depending on the strength of your blender, you may find small chunks of dates in your smoothie, and nobody likes a chunky smoothie! This is especially problematic if you keep your dates in the freezer. You can easily troubleshoot this by soaking your dates in a small bowl of boiled water for a few minutes before blending.

Pro Tips

  • Don't leave toddlers unattended with the blender ;)

Enjoy! xo
